Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Colombo – Negombo

Arrive in Sri Lanka and be welcomed by a representative or tour guide. You will then proceed your transfer to Negombo.

In Negombo, explore the old trading Portugese and Dutch ports. You will visit the old Dutch fort which is now part of the prison. Exploring the heritage of the Dutch colonization, you will also see the Dutch Canal which once served as a supply route. Absorb the old churches and villages around Negombo as well.

Day 2

Negombo – Anuradhapura

Explore what remains of Sri Lanka’s first capital. See the ancient ruins of Mahavira which is the first Buddhist monastery, the Thuparamaya, Ruwanwelisaya and several other temples. Learn and understand the rich history of Anuradhapura.

Day 3

Anuradhapura – Polonnaruwa

After breakfast, you will head to Polonnaruwa.

Polonnaruwa was once Sri Lanka’s royal medieval capital. Go around the ancient city’s ruins which remain in remarkable good condition. Enjoy a fascinating visit and look at some of the most impressive sculptures of Lord Buddha at the Gal Viahara.

Day 4

Polonnaruwa – Trincomalee

Take a trip from Polonnaruwa to Trincomalee after breakfast.

Visit one of the finest natural deep water harbors in the world. Troncomalee is host to some of the nicest beaches, Nilaveli, Uppaveli and off-shore Pigeon Island. Visit impressive ancient ruins of Buddhist temples and archaeological sites. Next, you will also visit Fort Frederick, a Portuguese heritage site.

Day 5

Trincomalee – Pigeon Island – Trincomalee

Travel to Pigeon Island after breakfast and see the seven hot springs of Kaniya en route. After lunch, be whisked away to an island paradise, Pigeon Island. Spot blue rock pigeons, a common inhabitant of the island. Walk the soft sandy white beaches or sunbathe while engrossed in a book.

Day 6

Trincomalee – Sigiriya

Proceed to Sigiriya and see its Rock Fortress, the 5th century “Fortress in the Sky”. On its summit of almost 500ft are the foundations of what used to be a palace and gardens complete with swimming pool. After lunch, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, a complex consisting of Buddhist images and colorful frescoes.

Day 7

Sigiriya – Kandy

Travel to the city of Kandy after breakfast.

Visit Matale, where you will be introduced to the production of spices that Sri Lanka is famous for. Then, discover Kandy’s sights: the Upper Lake Drive, Market Square, the Arts and Crafts Center and the Gem Museum. After lunch, see the Temple of the Sacred Tooth relic. At night, your mind will be blown by a colourful show of Sri Lankan heavy drumbeats and acrobatic acts.

Day 8

Kandy – Nuwara Eliya

Travel to Nuwara Eliya and enjoy a “tea experience”. Visit a plantation and factory to observe the entire process, from the picking of leaves to a nice hot cup of Ceylon tea. After lunch, visit Nuwara Eliya, the “little England” of Sri Lanka, set against a beautiful backdrop of mountains, valleys, waterfalls and tea plantations. Take a stroll around Victoria Park and spot some rare birds that are present here.

Day 9

Nuwara Eliya – Yala – Tissamaharama

Today, head to Yala, situated in the south east corner of the Sri Lankan island. Yala is the habitat of the greatest variety of Sri Lanka’s wildlife. Enjoy its tantalizing scenery while spotting some of the many species that are present here in their natural state. At night, you will have the opportunity to visit the Yala National Park to catch some game-viewing experience. Attempt to spot the ‘big three’ animals here: elephants, leopards and water buffaloes, before retiring at your hotel in Tissamaharama.

Day 10

Yala – Galle Fort – Hikkaduwa

Proceed to Galle Fort after breakfast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site originally built by the Portuguese. Explore the Dutch Reformed Church, All Saints Church, Amangalla Hotel, the lighthouse and the bell tower and colonial houses. After lunch, be mesmerized by one of the most iconic scenes to see in Sri Lanka: stilt fishing, a tradition that has been passed down through many centuries.

Day 11

Hikkaduwa – Colombo

Travel to Colombo and be enticed by the beautiful Gangaramaya Temple with its collection of elephant tusks, rare artefacts and relics. After lunch, you will be taken on a drive through the city ranging from the bustling commercial centers to the tree lined residential Cinnamon gardens. Stopover at Sea Street, the Goldsmith quarters, the Bazaar area and also the BMICH and the replica of Avukana Buddha, finishing with the Independence Square.

Day 12

Colombo

After breakfast, you have all the time you need to enjoy shopping in Colombo. Get the best deals in the variety of outlets Sri Lanka has to offer, or check out Pettah Bazaar for bargains from steel pots to the latest technological gadgets.

Day 13

Depart Colombo

Transfer to the airport after breakfast for your onward flight home.
